Abstract

The ancient Tamil epics serve as a treasure trove of knowledge about the culture and traditions of our ancestors. These epics not only reveal the political and social excellence of rulers but also portray the daily lives, struggles, and relationships of common people, as well as their bond with nature and other living beings. The Sangam Tamil people categorized their land into five regions: Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neythal, and Palai. The way of life in these regions was unique and distinct, shaped by the natural environment. Our literature takes us through this world, revealing the values and principles that our ancient sages and leaders lived by. This article explores the significance of the concept of "Virundhoompul" (hospitality) in the lives of our ancient Tamil forebears, highlighting the importance of morality, ethics, and way of life.
